the corona pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the trade fair landscape: a prominent example is the tire cologne, which took place for the first time in 2018 and should become the meeting point for the tire industry and trade every two years. in 2020 corona cancelled the show for the first time, in 2021 it was cancelled again. A full four years later, everything is set to get better, as announced by koelnmesse as the organizer of the tire cologne and the BRV, bundesverband reifenhandel und vulkaniseur-handwerk e.V., as a conceptual carrier in the context of a digital press talk on wednesday have affirmed. "trade fairs are of enormous importance for the relaunch of the respective industries – as a source of impetus and a catalyst", according to oliver frese, managing director of koelnmesse. for stephan helm, chairman of the BRV, the tire cologne with its leading function also plays a decisive role: "we are counting on the trade fair to shake the industry out of its ‘digital fatigue’ and that the revived personal exchange between the trade fair participants on the industry platform TTC will give the industry new, positive impetus in a market environment that continues to be challenging."
Important players missing
From 24. To 26. may 2022 the cathedral city will once again host numerous exhibitors from the industry. Among the prominent names are the tire manufacturers continental, michelin, pirelli, hankook and falken. But there are also big names that stay away from the show, such as bridgestone. In the retail sector, brands such as interpneu, GD handelssysteme, bohnenkamp AG, as well as international names such as the Belgian tire wholesaler deldo and the Dutch dealer inter-sprint were won over. In the rim sector, superior industries leichtmetallrader deutschland gmbh will be on board for the first time, also better known for its alutec, ATS and rial brands.
The company is also well positioned and representative in the areas of service and workshops as well as retreading. According to ingo riedeberger, director of the tire cologne, around 300 companies and brands from more than 30 countries are expected in cologne to present their products and services. By way of comparison: 533 companies from 40 countries exhibited at the first the tire cologne 2018, including 169 exhibitors from germany alone. Due to the pandemic, however, many exhibitors are still hesitant and demand is expected to increase.
Videos on demand
In order to also offer something to visitors who are unable to travel to cologne, there will also be a digital platform called TTC@home in addition to the on-site trade show. Exhibitors can present information on products and companies or very specifically in digital panels or conferences. The offering is supplemented by networking functions with chats and digital meetings via the TTC app. With the "tire stage In addition, current topics of the sector for trade and industry, as well as fleet management, are addressed. The content of the tire stage will be streamed live and the contributions will be made available as video on demand beyond the trade show period.
In addition to the digital offering, the tire cologne will also be supplemented by an accompanying framework program, including the global retreading conference in cooperation with the european retreading association bipaver. The "boulevard of sustainability" is also new in the event program. Centrally located in the trade show boulevard, the sustainable life cycle of tires will be spotlighted here. Themed areas and special shows provide additional information; for example, an assembly area will demonstrate the mounting of runflat or high-performance tires together with the BRV.
Collision with autopromotec
However, there is one drop of bitterness for trade show visitors: due to the repeated postponement of the tire cologne, it clashes with the Italian workshop equipment trade show autopromotec in bologna, which will be held almost simultaneously from 25 to 30 June. Up to 28. May 2022. According to ingo riedeberger, this collision is annoying for exhibitors, who, however, assess it differently. Some would have different teams for both fairs, but some companies would have to decide between the tire cologne or autopromotec – especially Italian exhibitors would be affected by that. Koelnmesse boss oliver friese stresses, however, that this is a one-off and that clashes of dates should be avoided in the future.
